The Characteristics of Neutral Current Interactions of Neutrinos in Hydrogen Using the Fermilab 15-ft. Bubble Chamber and External Muon Identifier

Abstract

This report presents preliminary results on the characteristics of neutral current events from a 75,000 picture hydrogen exposure of the Fermilab 15-foot bubble chamber to a broad band neutrino beam. Results on charged current interactions

$$ \nu {\rm{p}} \to {\rm{ }}{\mu ^{ - }}{X^{{ + + }}} $$

have been previously reported [1]. These were based on analyses conducted with the bubble chamber data alone. In this report data from the External Muon Identifier (EMI) are used to aid in obtaining a sample of neutral current events

$$ \nu {\rm{p}} \to \nu {\rm{ }}{{\rm{X}}^{ + }} $$

relatively free of charged current and hadron-induced background.
