Abstract
Business Process Reengineering (BPR) has often been denoted as one of the management fads of the 1990s. It has promised huge benefits in terms of costs, quality, ‘time-to-market’, etc., and it is based on the rethinking and redesigning of the whole company and its processes from scratch.[HA02] Most authors agree that it is a crucial undertaking in the practice of business computing that can be considered as a means to enable the migration from the traditional use of IT into the information-age.[ÖS01] BPR represents an approach to information systems development which takes strategic aspects into account.[AV01] Advocates of BPR demand the intensive application of IT to reengineer their processes. In fact, IT is considered as the main enabler for BPR; the concept assumes that problems can be solved merely through the use of IT solutions.
