Summary

A recently introduced k — k 2/ε turbulence model is used to compute supersonic flow over axisymmetric backward-facing steps with several step heights. experimental data are by Roshko and Thomke (1966). This case involves a separated flow region downstream of the step as well as an oblique shock interacting with the boundary layer in the reattachment region. It is, therefore, considered a challenging test for turbulence models. The model, in its present form, predicts the extent of the flow separation rather well, however, except for the case with the smallest step height, its prediction of the wall pressure distribution is fair at best.
