Introduction to Part III
The development of efficient and accurate numerical methods for the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations is, and always has been, of the same importance and success as the development of computer hardware. The numerical solution consists of the algorithmic core, which usually solves a linear or linearized system of equations, the grid arrangement, discretization schemes and the physical modelling of transport phenomena. Papers which are concerned with these topics in a general sense are presented in this part. The main emphasis of these papers varies from mathematical aspects — e. g. the formulation of equations, boundary conditions and consistent and stable discretization schemes — the development of solution techniques — e. g. adaptive grid concepts, solution algorithms and physical modelling — to the application to certain physical problems. In the following a few remarks are made about the contents of some papers.
