Zusammenfassung
Anwesend waren Susan Serupi, eine ca. 35jährige Frau, eine ca. 25jährige weibliche Verwandte von ihr, ihr Ehemann, Tom Simon, dessen Vater und Ginger, ein im Krankenhaus in Losuia auf Kiriwina tätiger Krankenpfleger. Die Unterhaltung wurde in Hiri Motu, der im Südosten der Insel Neuguinea verbreiteten Lingua franca, geführt(1). Meinen Besuch und meinen Wunsch, etwas über die Geburtssitten auf Kiriwina zu erfahren, hatte ich am Vormittag desselben Tages bei einem Gespräch mit Susan Serupi und ihrem Mann angekündigt. Er, wie auch der Krankenpfleger Ginger hatten beide in den Diensten von Dr. Horst JÜPTNER(2) gestanden, dem langjährigen Leiter des Krankenhauses in Losuia, der überall noch in sehr positiver Erinnerung ist. Daß man mich freundlich aufnahm und meinen Fragen gegenüber sehr aufgeschlossen war, ist sicherlich auch auf diese Tatsache zurückzuführen; ich hatte den Einheimischen die Grüße ihres früheren Arztes übermittelt. Die Familie bewohnt ein “modernes” Haus in der Nähe des Ortes Oiveyowa. — Der damalige einwöchige Aufenthalt diente der Vorbereitung eines Forschungsprojektes auf den Trobriand-Inseln, das nach einem weiteren Besuch 1981 Mitte 1982 begonnen wurde.
