Es sei R bzw. P bzw. N die Menge aller reellen bzw. nichtnegativen ganzen bzw. natürlichen Zahlen. Sei C der Raum aller auf R gleichmäßig stetigen und beschränkten Funktionen mit der Norm
und LP, 1≤p≤∞, der Raum aller auf R meßbaren Funktionen, für die die Norm
endlich ist. X sei einer der Räume C oder LP, 1≤p<∞. Für f∈X sei ein singuläres Integral vom Faltungstvp der Form
vorgegeben. Dabei sei ρ > 0 ein Parameter, der gegen unendlich streben soll, und {χρ(x)}ρ>0 der Kern des singulären Integrals {I(f;x;ρ)}ρ>0, der hier immer die spezielle Parameterabhängigkeit χρ(x) = ρχ(ρx) aufweisen soll. In diesem Fall bezeichnet man auch die Funktion χ selbst als Kern von (1.1). Ist χ∈ NL1 d.h. ist X∈ L1 normiert zu \(\int_{-\infty }^{\infty }{X(x)dx=1}\), so bilden die Operatoren (1.1) für ρ→∞ einen starken Approximationsprozeß auf X, d.h., für jedes f∈ X gilt (vgl. [4,p.121])
