Zusammenfassung

Die tatsächliche Entwicklung hat die pessimistischen Erfolgsprognosen widerlegt. Zwar meisterten die einzelnen Länder den Systemwechsel und die anschließende Transformation der gesellschaftlichen Teilbereiche auf recht unterschiedliche Weise, doch weisen die Veränderungen in der überwiegenden Zahl der Fälle in die von den Reformeliten gewählte Richtung. Die Unterschiede werden auf ungleiche Ausgangsbedingungen, die oft erst nach dem Systemwechsel erkennbar wurden, und das je spezifische Muster der Reformpolitiken bzw. -Strategien zurückgeführt. Deren Ergebnisse werden im folgenden zunächst für das politische System der neuen Demokratien (II) und sodann für den Umbau des Wirtschaftssystems (III) resümiert. Ein letzter Blick gilt dem Möglichkeitsraum der postsozialistischen Transformationen (IV).
