Selected Analytical Problems Involving Inorganic and Organometallic Analytes which Contain Elements from Groups IB–VIIB

  • Chapter
Analytical Chemistry of Complex Matrices

Summary

Differential-pulse anodic stripping voltammetry can be used to determine directly nanomolar concentrations of copper in samples taken from the aqueous environment. The method is accurate when compared with atomic absorption spectrometry and possesses advantages such as rapidity and portability for on-site monitoring. The methodology discussed in Section 4.1 will yield information on the speciation of copper in the particular environmental sample, e. g. labile metal [CuCO3, Cu(H2O)2+ 4, etc], organically bound labile metal, lipid-soluble metal. A worked calculation on the determination of total copper in a sea-water sample is given.
