Wechselwirkungen zwischen Wurzelverteilung und ertragskundlicher Leistung von Robinia pseudoacacia L. und Medicago sativa L. beim Alley-Cropping

  • Chapter

Abstract

The effects of intercropping on root distribution and the above ground biomass yield of an alley cropping system with Robinia pseudoacacia L. and Medicago sativa L. on a reclamation site of the Lusatian lignite mining district were investigated. Special emphasis was put on studying the impact of deep ploughing on root distribution patterns of trees and field crops.

Medicago yields were suppressed due to competition between root systems of crops and trees. Deep ploughing caused a significant increase of yields through the improvement of soil physical conditions, but remained ineffective in reducing root competition.
