Abstract
Despite a number of objections GDP per head is an established measure of the wealth of nations. Consequently the rate of economic growth is used as an indicator of increases in economic welfare. At an aggregate level it is clear that an increased use of inputs and/or a higher productivity of the production process are basic ingredients for economic growth.
