WAP β€” The wireless application protocol

  • Chapter
Mobile Networking with WAP

Abstract

Today, the wireless network is mainly used for voice communication, where voice mail is the most popular value-added service. However, a new buzz word is increasingly being mentioned in the marketplace: WAP. With the WAP, a new dimension will be added to the use of mobile phones, through the introduction of new data-oriented mass-market services. The authors describe the WAP concept, it’s historical and technological background, and the wide range of applications offered by this new approach to wireless data communication.
