Zusammenfassung
Vergleiche „hinken“ oder, wie Goethe gesagt haben soll, „nur Dummköpfe vergleichen“. Von daher könnte man die komparative Methode als ein fruchtloses intellektuelles Unterfangen und die Vergleichende Politikwissenschaft als dümmlich-intellektuelle Spielerei abtun. Es ist jedoch wohl einleuchtend, dass wir als Vertreter dieser Disziplin anderer Meinung sind. Dennoch liegt in Goethes Vorbehalt ein wahrer Kern. Wenn vergleichende Analysen nicht auf einem soliden methodischen Konzept beruhen, werden ihre Ergebnisse leicht unsinnig. Doch wenn die Resultate nicht hinter verschleiernder statistischer Terminologie oder pseudowissenschaftlichem Jargon versteckt werden, ist die Spreu vom Weizen leicht zu trennen.
