Theorien der Transformation: Die demokratische Konsolidierung postautoritärer Gesellschaften

Zusammenfassung

Betrachtet man die Evolution sozialwissenschaftlicher Theorien als eine darwinistische Selektion, in der nur jenes Paradigma überlebt, das einen „Erklärungsüberschuß“ (Lakatos 1974: 173) gegenüber den konkurrierenden Paradigmen nachweisen kann, wird die sich bisweilen manifestierende Hybris sozialwissenschaftlicher Großtheorien, komplexe gesellschaftliche Phänomene exklusiv und umfassend erklären zu können, schon aus dem eigenen Überlebenswillen erklärbar1. Nun hat aber gerade die Entwicklung der politikwissenschaftlichen Theoriebildung im allgemeinen und der Transformationsforschung im besonderen, die Paradigmenerledigung, wie sie Kuhn (1967) für die Struktur (natur-)wissenschaftlicher Revolutionen herausgearbeitet hat, für die Sphäre der Sozialwissenschaften als einen unhaltbaren Mythos enthüllt. Anstatt einer linearen Theorieevolution lassen sich in der politikwissenschaftlichen Theoriebildung eher die Konturen von zyklischen Theoriedominanzen und einem sich festsetzenden Theoriepluralismus erkennen, der nicht zur Erledigung konkurrierender Theorieangebote, sondern bisweilen sogar zur wechselseitigen Aufklärung führt. Dies kann an der sozialwissenschaftlichen Transformationsforschung der letzten 40 Jahre exemplifiziert werden.
