Abstract
Transition in East-Central Europe - this is one of the most often discussed topic of our days. The ex-communist countries with their command economies are now undergoing a fundamental transformation undertaking dramatic efforts not only to build up, but to open their national economies based on market principles. The reform programs of the single countries - mainly the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia - may of course differ in their speed, targets and task ranking etc. but they certainly represent the same ambition concerning the convertibility of their national currencies.
