Zusammenfassung

Die letzten Jahrzehnte haben die Soziologen durch Anwendung ihrer Theorien und ihrer Forschungsmethoden auf sich selbst zur schmerzhaften Einsicht gebracht, daß auch der Fortschritt (oder besser: die Entwicklung) ihrer Wissenschaft nicht als einliniger, zielgerichteter und gradliniger, kumulativer und allein an den eigenen wissenschaftlichen Kriterien orientierter Prozeß zu sehen ist. Sie haben erkennen müssen, daß Wissenschaftstheorie und Methodologie hier und tatsächliche Theorieentwicklungs- und Forschungspraxis dort zwei Paar verschiedene Schuhe darstellen, daß systematische Weiterentwicklung oder auch nur Wahrung schon erreichten theoretischen und empirischen Wissens zwar vom wissenschaftlichen Ethos gefordert, unter Prestigegesichtspunkten und Originalitätsansprüchen aber geradezu gefährliche individuelle Arbeitsprinzipien darstellen.
