Abstract

In the present work, the distribution of the number of inversions has been considered. This constitutes a generalization of the distribution used in the Kendall test. Explicit formulas have been given for the calculation of the first two moments of the distribution of the number of inversions. In addition, proposal for the estimation of the probability of inversion has been provided. The proposed estimator, based on the monotonicity of the expected value, is an unbiased estimator.
