Abstract

A precise diagnosis and analogous treatment are sometimes not the only prerequisites for managing chronic pain. Patients may have associated maladaptive cognitions which make it challenging for physicians to treat their pain. Available evidence shows that patient beliefs, attitudes and expectations can affect outcome and response to treatment. Various tools and models have been developed by researchers to get a better understanding into these aspects of chronic pain and aid in providing a more comprehensive approach.
