Abstract

Neurovascular dissections are relatively common lesions that physicians involved in the care of cerebrovascular patients can expect to encounter. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of these lesions can mitigate significant neurologic complications. Medical therapy, while effective in most circumstances for nonhemorrhagic lesions, is occasionally inadequate to prevent ischemic symptoms, leading to a role for interventional treatment (open surgical or endovascular) to prevent stroke. Endovascular treatment with deconstructive or reconstructive techniques has become the dominant interventional strategy in the treatment of these lesions.
