Abstract

In The Mai Carr weaves a century of Irish women’s histories through four generations of seven female characters ranging in age from 100-year-old Grandma Fraochlán, who was born post-Famine in 1879, up to 16 (and 30)-year-old Millie. While the action spans a year and a half from summer 1979 to Christmas Day 1980 the psychic temporality conveys a trans-historicity of women’s experience.
