Part of the Universitext book series (UTX)

In which we have a first encounter with representations of finite groups, discover that they are (if the base field is compliant enough) completely reducible and get acquainted with irreducible representations and their characters. Not to mention Schur’s lemma. In the end of the chapter, there is a mysterious appearance of the quaternions.
