Abstract
Bourn’s approach on global skills implies the need to consider broader social and political questions. This chapter considers what global skills could mean in terms of equipping educationalists to secure social change.
The chapter begins by reviewing major academic theorists such as Mezirow and his perspective son transformative learning and Giroux on critical pedagogy. It then relates the themes emanating from these theorists to the rapidly growing discourse around global citizenship. The chapter finally looks at examples of training materials/courses with an explicit transformative and skills development element.
