Yoram Gross: Bringing Australian Animation to the World, One Dot at a Time

Abstract

The focus of this chapter is on the important work of the Australian Yoram Gross studios. Yoram Gross produced in total seven, feature-length, Dot and the Kangaroo films; he produced nearly a dozen other animated features, plus a number of animated television series, which included Blinky Bill, featuring the iconic Australian koala character. Many of these films featured live-action backgrounds which highlighted the Australian landscape in a way that no previous animation had. Ultimately the animated films of Yoram Gross have had strong cultural implications, successfully reflecting aspects of Australian culture, and projecting these to the national and international scene.
