Abstract
This chapter provides any overview of fatigue including a medical history of CFS, an investigation into the symptoms and cognitive impairments associated with it and a range of interventions—both pharmacological and behavioural—that have been shown to manage the condition. The chapter also provides an overview of a range of chronic conditions where fatigue is reported by patients as a significant but secondary symptom of unknown aetiology. This includes rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and cancer. Interventions for these conditions are also discussed. A study investigating the fatigue in adults with developmental coordination disorder is also discussed. The chapter ends with recommendations for future research regarding fatigue—including fatigue in older adults.
