Abstract
This chapter first provides contextual information about Ontario and Shanghai, between which the international teacher learning communities reported in the book were built. Geographical, historical, sociocultural, and educational aspects of the two places are reviewed and juxtaposed in order to help readers better understand the evidence and discussion in the book. Especially, recent curriculum reforms, practices of teacher professional learning, and policies on education internationalization in the two places are highlighted. The second part of this chapter compares the education of the two places and then delineates a reciprocal learning space of teachers that consists of four pairs of school partnerships. It then describes collaborative activities and exchanges that Ontario and Shanghai teachers participated together as part of their ongoing teaching practice.
