Abstract
Premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) are usually impulses originating outside the normal pathways of the cardiac conduction system. PVCs may also be a sign of underlying cardiomyopathy. Moreover sometimes the presence of frequent PVCs is associated with the development of PVC-induced cardiomyopathy. In this chapter starting from a clinical case, we have carefully reviewed the basic mechanisms of PVCs and their possible pathophysiologic mechanisms particularly for the development of PVC-induced cardiomyopathy. The electrocardiogram (EKG) is a fundamental tool to localize the exact site of origin of PVC.
