Abstract
Chronic daily headache has been reported to affect 3–4% of the world population and can cause a significant degree of disability in many patients, as chronic headaches often affect young and middle-aged patients at the time of their prime productivity. Two major studies, the American Migraine Prevalence and Prevention Study (AMPP) and the International Burden of Migraine Study (IBMS), quantified the economic burden of chronic migraine in the USA and throughout the world. These studies showed that patients with chronic migraine incur higher direct and indirect costs annually compared to those with episodic migraines, further suggesting that chronic headache continues to be a major public health problem.
