Leadership: Taking Responsibility



In this chapter, von Devivere offers a much needed summary of leadership in twenty-first-century organizations, addressing the search for meaning in their organizations and exercising leadership by example. These leadership practices are overcoming self-interest, sparking the human spirit, based on individual integrity and oriented toward a common purpose. von Devivere highlights leaders’ engagement in tapping into the know why of work, rather than being trapped in the instrumental, functional aspects of know-how. The author highlights the effects of these novel approaches, addressing the human search for holistic experiences in work and concludes this chapter with examples of the silent revolution that has begun, effectively driving a new culture of responsible life leadership.
