Abstract
Independence as an abstract ternary relation \(\langle\mathit{X} | \mathit{Y} | \mathit{Z}\rangle\) for probability and other situations has been examined by W. Spohn, see [Spo80], A. P. Dawid, see [Daw79], J. Pearl, see, e.g., [Pea88], where the situation in graphs is discussed, too. See [Sch97-2] for further discussion.
