Acquisition of Language and Knowledge: Logical Positivism and Structural Linguistics

This chapter studies the acquisition of language, including the pleasures of rhythm and rhyme, and the role of language in shaping our understanding of the world. The chapter argues that both Logical Positivism and structural linguistics misrepresented language by detaching it from the context of language acquisition and cultural history, in order to facilitate its academic study.
