Abstract
The UK regulator of registered medical practitioners is the GMC. This chapter discusses its role in medical regulation and how practitioners may become involved in referrals to the GMC. We seek to explain the likely steps in the complex GMC investigation process, their powers and possible outcomes, highlighting the issues practitioners need to be aware of should they become subject to an investigation.
