Abstract
Calcific tendinitis is a relatively common disease process of the shoulder that is found most commonly in women between 30 and 60 years. The incidence of this entity has been reported to be 2.7%, while the incidence of symptomatic calcific tendinitis is about 1.8%. The etiology is unknown and clinically, patients usually present with acute onset, debilitating pain in the affected shoulder. The most common treatment approach is conservative; some have advocated for needle barbotage with surgical debridement being the last resort in patients that have failed nonoperative or minimally invasive treatment approaches.
