Minimally Invasive Aesthetic Procedures

Abstract

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a permanent filler used to correct furrows and deep depressions of the body and also for volume replacement. Among all permanent fillers available in the market, PMMA is the most regularly used. PMMA is demonstrated to be safe, effective, and long lasting with few adverse reactions when indicated correctly.

Theoretically any region of the body can be treated, as long as the tissue is distensible, and the treatment technique is basically through retrograde injections into the subcutaneous tissue. The amount to be injected per area, the number of injections, and the interval between each session vary according to the patient, to the area to be corrected, and to the indication, and it must be determined by the physician. At the moment there are no studies that determine the maximum of PMMA that can be used in each session, nor the number of sessions, or the maximum quantity that can be used by a person. Good experience is fundamental to reach best results.
