Abstract

Nasolabial grooves are natural facial contours, more discreet with the face in repose and more visible in facial mimicry (Bass L. Injectable filler techniques for facial rejuvenation, volumization, and augmentation. Facial Plast Surg Clin N Am. 2015;23:479–88). As the face ages, the wrinkles become deeper and more apparent, constituting a frequent complaint at the doctor’s office.

As a result of aging, there is a gradual decrease in skin width and elasticity, associated with subcutaneous degeneration, weakening of retention ligaments, and reduction of facial muscle and bone masses, leading to migration under the skin and soft tissues adjacent to the face, responsible for the onset of expression lines, grooves, flaccidity, depressions, spots, and contour alterations (Sattler and Gout, Quintessense, 2017; Small and Hoang, Practical guide to dermal filler procedure, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2012).

Volumetric filling of the nasolabial groove allows for the attenuation of these alterations, generating great patient satisfaction with the results.
