Abstract

Malar and zygomatic areas are responsible for midface shape and young appearance; aging causes a loss of subcutaneous fat and bone reabsorption resulting in a bony skeleton appearance and a wider orbital aperture with less anterior projection. A three-dimensional volumetric approach is the key to have a harmonic outcome, when treating the aged face. Although every patient has an individual need, midface treatment has a major role to achieve a youthful appearance. Therefore, rejuvenation techniques should start at the midface and be supplemented as needed. The most studied filler is the HA; however, other products such as calcium hydroxylapatite and polymethylmethacrylate can be used. This chapter will provide the tips to a successful treatment of the midface using high-density hyaluronic acid fillers. Also, it will describe possible complications associated with the procedure and the many ways to prevent them.
