Botulinum Toxin for Special Conditions: Masseter Hypertrophy

Masseter hypertrophy has been treated with botulinum toxin type-A injections because of aesthetic complaints in patients with round face, specially Asian patients. It can also be used also for mastigatory hyperactivity and stomatognathic system dysfunctions. The treatment with toxin masseter injections has a high efficacy and safety profile, but the physician performing this procedure should be able to recognize the anatomic area to avoid complications.
