Abstract
von Salomon’s Outlaws is another text ambiguously straddling the fact/fiction divide and also a best-seller. It is about the author’s post-war experiences as a right-wing terrorist, intended to justify such actions in the name of patriotism, in a period of peace which was “the war continued by other means”. The analysis focuses on the narrative techniques which allow the author’s propaganda purposes to take the form of a narrative of personal experiences. The reception of the book was fundamentally divided along the lines of the political divisions noted above, but contained significant elements of ambiguity.
