Abstract
The dream of realising artificial photosynthesis can probably be best compared to the dream of flying at the turn of the 19th century; early aviation pioneers looked at birds, the function of the wings, the tail, fuselage and the aerodynamics of flying to come up with biomimetic aeroplane design features.
