The Oeuvre as Assemblage

In this chapter, we focus on the possibilities for highly complex assemblages or oeuvres that draw upon wide-ranging philosophical, cultural and aesthetic referents that culminate in the situating of the assemblage within a philosophical terrain concerned with fundamental human questions. The objective is to explore how advertising assemblages can engage in long-standing philosophical discussions and elaborate new positionalities. In particular, this chapter focuses on the assemblage of Errol Morris, showing how it plays out several of the philosophical strains of Deleuze and Guattari’s work pertaining to the role of the philosopher and the nature of truth.
