Abstract
Syphilis is an example of a pathogen-caused infection that was once close to eradication, but is now reported to be infecting millions of patients worldwide. The disease ranges from asymptomatic to severe; therefore, patients suspected to be infected with syphilis should undergo syphilis testing, which is divided into non-treponemal (i.e., rapid plasma reagin) and treponemal tests. In this chapter, a full description of the non-treponemal (RPR) test principle, reagents, steps, and results interpretation are explored.
