Abstract
Grant writing can seem to be an overwhelming and complex affair. However, it can be broken down into smaller steps such as finding grants, learning to read and screen grant requests for proposals, recruiting collaborators, preparing and submitting a letter of intent, writing an ongoing project description that can be inserted into a proposal, writing the proposal when requested, and preparing the budget. This chapter will describe how to obtain grants, whether as an individual trying to fund a research project or a nongovernmental organization, not-for-profit, or other type of organization wishing to conduct research or do service projects and education.
