SCHIFFWEILER (Landsweiler-Reden): Center for Biological Documentation (Zentrum für Biodokumention—ZfBS)
The Center for Biological Documentation (Zentrum für Biodokumention) began its pioneering work in Reden, a location with great potential for the future, at the end of 2002. Shortly afterwards, the natural history collections of Saarland University in Saarbrücken were transferred to the newly established center under a permanent loan agreement. The collections were further expanded in 2005 by the addition of the geological museum, which was previously located in Saarbrücken.
Since 1 July 2016 the Center for Biological Documentation has been an independent department in the Ministry for Environmental Affairs and Consumer Protection of Saarland, which is dedicated to the protection of species and habitats.
The Center for Biological Documentation is committed to safeguarding, maintaining, and updating the natural history and geoscience collections, which belong to the Federal State of Saarland.
