Arthroscopic Transosseous Rotator Cuff Repair

Abstract

From the dictionary definition, transosseous means through the bone that is to say, creating a tunnel into the bone. Historically, rotator cuff tendon repairs were performed in an open fashion and employed a single row of fixation achieved by the creation of transosseous bone tunnels (Buess et al. 2005; Galatz et al. 2004; Harryman et al. 1991) taking the sutures through bone tunnels and tying over the bone in the old manner, as performed by masters of the open cuff repair such as McLaughlin (1944) and Neer (1972).
