The Postmodern Era: The Rage of Islam
The Russian invasion of Afghanistan opened a new era in Muslim resistance. The rise of the mujahidin was at first supported by America and others but later regretted after the Soviet withdrawal as the Taliban developed into an unforgiving movement of strict Islamic ethics and renewal. The rage engendered spread into other movements such as al-Qa’ida and ISIS led by a number of enraged young leaders. Their message was not just the renewal of Islam but also the elimination by any means of those they claimed were their opponents.
