Abstract

A two-year stay in pre-Gaddafi Libya provided the author with an introduction to an Arab Islamic country in the process of formation and development. Libya was important as an example of a Muslim state founded on the basis of a religious reform message and inspired leaders (namely that of the Sanusis), the study of which forms the basis of the whole book.
