Ways to Bolster Resilience in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Youth



This paper begins with a summary of the victimization that members of the LGBTQ community experience and the psychosocial impact, including the increased risk of suicidal behaviors. A screening guideline (acronym—IS PATH WARM) provides a list of warning indicators. Specific ways that members of the LGBTQ community can bolster their resilience are enumerated and ways schools and supportive others can be of assistance are provided. In Appendix A, a self-report assessment checklist and specific ways that this checklist can be employed to bolster resilience are included.
