Abstract
In this section, an example of a life-cycle analysis and of a resilience analysis is given for a reinforced concrete high-rise building in Bucharest. The building was designed for three levels of peak ground acceleration in order to mimic the various seismic design code generations enforced in Romania. The economic feasibility of a further increase of the design peak ground acceleration is evaluated through life-cycle analysis. This type of analysis uses as input data the losses obtained from a seismic risk analysis performed with fragility functions specifically built for the three analysed structures. The results show that both from the economic point of view and from the functionality point of view it is feasible to further increase the design peak ground acceleration from the current hazard level that corresponds to a mean return period of 225 years.
