Abstract
This concluding chapter summarizes the common themes (data-driven, improved spatial-temporal granularity, theoretically informed, cyber-physical connection, and methodological diversity) that cut across all the previous twelve chapters and outlines key topics as we scale up the human dynamics research and link it to the on-going work related to smart and connected communities. We have identified the following five broad areas to propel the human dynamics study to a new level: (1) integrating organic with designed data; (2) close coupling of normative and positive approaches; (3) seeking methodological convergence through mixed methods; (4) making our research more socially relevant by focusing on pressing problems; and (5) promoting more robust and reliable research by embracing the open science paradigm.
