Abstract
The proposed 50 Kton magnetized Iron Calorimeter (ICAL) detector at the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) aimed to study the atmospheric neutrino oscillations and other fundamental issues of neutrino physics. The ICAL will use 2 m x 2 m in size glass Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) as the active detector elements due to their excellent timing and good spatial resolution. As a part of R&D to develop the RPCs, single gap glass based RPCs of 1 m x 1 m in size has been fabricated at Delhi University. We studied detector performance using cosmic ray muons as ionizing particles. In this paper, we present results of large size RPC detector for its efficiency and count rate with varying gas compositions.
