We will adopt the axis system with origin at amidships centre plane and base line, as shown in Fig. 1, and assume, for the moment, that our floating body, or ship, is symmetric about the centreline (xz) plane. This will imply that the centre of buoyancy is on centreline (i.e. \(y = 0\)).
