Abstract

Abdominal wall hernia repair is one or if not the most common surgical procedures performed annually in millions of patients worldwide that has a great impact on society and on healthcare policy maker as its outcome may have significant role in the social healthcare cost. In a large continent like Asia that hosts more than a third of the world’s population, the number of repair may reach several millions, and with 169 countries, partly developed and mostly developing the repairs and its outcome depends on several factors like affordability, national healthcare systems, resource available and surgeon’s knowledge. The improvements of socio-economics and the awareness of standard of care will play a major role in achieving a better outcome from all patients.
